MagSafe, Explained: What “MagSafe-Compatible” Actually Means
Share
If you have shopped for phone accessories recently, you have seen the word MagSafe everywhere. Here is a plain-English explanation of what it means and why it matters when choosing a grip.
What MagSafe is
MagSafe is the magnetic system built into recent iPhones (iPhone 12 and later). A ring of magnets on the back of the phone lets compatible accessories snap into place in a consistent position.
What “MagSafe-compatible” means for accessories
A MagSafe-compatible accessory is designed to attach to that magnetic ring — on the phone directly, or on a MagSafe-compatible case. Orbiton attaches magnetically to MagSafe-compatible devices and cases.
What to check before you buy
- Does your phone support MagSafe, or do you have a MagSafe-compatible case?
- Is the accessory meant to attach magnetically, rather than with adhesive?
We will publish Orbiton's full compatibility details before launch. In the meantime, if your setup is MagSafe-compatible, you are in the right place.
